If you just bought a new home, you need to learn how to keep everything in good working condition. This includes your roof. If you don’t maintain it, you’ll have to get professional roof repair services and that’s often not cheap. Better to maintain your roof now, then pay for a new one sooner than you need to. Use the tips on this blog post and you’ll be on the right track.

Keep an Eye on It

A roof doesn’t go from brand new to broken down overnight. It’s a gradual process and one that’s noticeable if you know what to look for. Once a month look at your roof from your front yard and see if you notice any of the following:

  • Missing shingles or tiles
  • Rust spots
  • Green areas
  • Curling shingles

If you notice any of the above during your inspection, call your local roofer immediately. Trust us when we tell you that’s easier to take care of a small problem than a large problem. The only difference between the two is neglect. So, if you take care of roof repairs when they’re small, you won’t have to worry about them getting out of hand.

Maintain Your Gutters

You may think that of your roof and gutters as two seperate parts of your home, but you shouldn’t. Your gutters are very important, because they prevent water damage to your roof in a very direct way. That’s why it’s imperative to keep your gutters clean at all times. If your gutters are clogged, then rain water will have no way to get off of your roof. This will lead to water damage and you don’t want that.

Get Your Roof Professionally Cleaned

Much in the same way you don’t water standing on your roof, you also don’t want debris of any kind accumulating on your roof for long periods of time. It simply isn’t good for your roof. We suggest that you get your roof cleaned at least twice a year. This will extend the life of your roof, so it’s worth the money. After all, it will cost less than replacing your roof before it’s lifetime is up.
